Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about advocacy.rocks

What is advocacy.rocks?

advocacy.rocks is a free civic tool that helps US residents find every elected official who represents them — from the President and US Senators down to state legislators — and write personalized advocacy letters using AI assistance.

Which officials will I find?

You will see the President of the United States, your two US Senators, your US House Representative, your state Governor, Attorney General, Lieutenant Governor (where the office exists), and your state senators and state assembly or house members. Coverage is based on your home address.

How do I contact my senator or representative?

Enter your name and home address on the homepage. We look up every official representing your address and show their phone numbers, email addresses, contact forms, websites, and mailing addresses. Click 'Write a Letter' on any card to draft a message with AI assistance.

How does the AI letter writing work?

You choose an official, briefly describe your concern or issue, and our AI assistant (powered by Anthropic Claude) drafts a formal, personalized advocacy letter on your behalf. The letter includes the official's contact information, a personal opening, a clear ask, and your name and address. You should always read, edit, and personalize the draft before sending it.

Does contacting my representative actually work?

Yes — especially personal, specific letters. Congressional offices track constituent contact volume on issues, and a well-written personal letter carries far more weight than a form letter. State legislators are often even more responsive to individual constituent contact. Calling is also effective. The key is being specific about who you are, where you live, and exactly what you are asking for.

Is this service free?

Yes, completely free. No account, no subscription, no ads. We built this to make civic participation accessible to everyone.

Is my personal information stored?

No. We do not store your name, address, or letters. Your address is used in real time to look up your representatives and is not saved on our servers. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

What should I write about?

Anything you care about — a pending bill, a local issue, a national policy, funding for a program, or anything else your elected official has the power to influence. The most effective letters are specific: name the bill or issue, explain how it affects you personally, and make a clear, concrete request.

How do I send the letter?

After drafting, you can copy the letter to your clipboard and paste it into the official's contact form, or use the 'Open in Email' button to launch your email program with the letter pre-filled. Many federal officials use web contact forms rather than direct email — we detect this automatically and give you the right option.

What if a representative's contact information is wrong or outdated?

Representative data comes from OpenStates and may occasionally be out of date, especially after elections. If you find an error, please contact us at advocacy.rocks1@gmail.com and we will look into it. You can also verify contact details directly on the official's website.

Is advocacy.rocks affiliated with any political party or organization?

No. We are completely non-partisan. Our tool helps citizens of every political background contact officials of every political party on any issue. We have no affiliation with any government agency, political party, or advocacy organization.

What states and officials are covered?

We cover all 50 US states. Federal coverage (President, US Senators, US Representatives) is complete. State legislators (state senators and state house/assembly members) are sourced from OpenStates, which has strong coverage across all states. Governors, Attorneys General, and Lieutenant Governors are included for all 50 states. Local officials such as mayors and city council members are not currently covered.
